Typical Vaping Myths You Should Know About 0
Myths and misconceptions can easily affect many industries, and unfortunately, vaping seems to be a topic of discussion that’s completed riddled with all sorts of myths and information that’s just downright false. From ridiculous claims like vaping will ‘freeze your lungs’ to things like ‘more than 50 puffs in a day,’ the team at Sunshine Vape wanted to bring some of these laughably untrue claims to light by busting them. Like any good online vapor shop, we want to make sure that our customers and fellow vapers have a good understanding of what’s true and what’s not when it comes to this promising alternative to smoking cigarettes.

Myth: E-Liquid Contains Antifreeze
This is a hilariously untrue claim. It is true that one of the main ingredients found in e-juice, propylene glycol, is also used in antifreeze. However, literally everything else found in antifreeze besides propylene glycol is not in e-liquid. Saying e-liquid contains antifreeze is somewhat akin to saying that you’re drinking water when you’re really drinking a soda or a beer, because, you know, those beverages contain water.
It’s a shame, but even vaping is not exempt from logical fallacies.
Myth: Vaping Causes As Much Harm To Your Body As Smoking Cigarettes
Nope. This is blatantly false. Now, we’re not going to go around and say that vaping is healthy for you, per say, but we will stand behind the claim that vaping is a 100 percent healthier alternative to smoking tobacco or cigarettes. Aside from the fact that e-liquid has four ingredients in it compared to the thousands of chemicals found in cigarettes, smokers who switched to vaping have been able to breathe better, have more endurance, and have an increased sense of smell and taste - all things that were hindered by smoking.
Myth: Non-Smokers Will Pick Up Vaping
It’s possible, but it’s also important to note that e-cigarettes were introduced as a tool to help smokers quit smoking. Vaping is not marketed toward non-smokers and it’s not marketed toward young teens.
According to a study conducted by the CDC in 2014, among the group of adults who had never smoked cigarettes, only 3.2 percent had ever actually tried vaping. The age group that had the highest rate of people trying a vape without ever smoking a real cigarette was the 18-24 age group at 9.7 percent.
Myth: Second-Hand Vapor Is As Dangerous As Second-Hand Smoke
While second-hand vapor may not be considerate to those around you, accidentally inhaling a slight amount of vapor from someone vaping next to you is not nearly going to cause as much harm to your lungs and your body as second-hand smoke would. Heck, try it out for yourself if you really want - stand next to a smoker and a vaper at separate times of the day, and let us know how you smell after you’ve hung out next to the smoker.

What Is Vaping, And How Can It Benefit You? 0
People have long-consumed nicotine for its soothing and psychoactive properties. It almost seems like, at a certain point in American history, the workforce was practically required to have their standard coffee and cigarette during their breaks. Well, times are different now, but many people still enjoy the nicotine experience, and we support that here at Sunshine Vape. That being said, though vaping e-juice is a well-established phenomenon, many long-time smokers are still confused as to what vaping actually is and how it differs (or is even more beneficial) than traditional smoking. Well, that’s what Sunshine Vape is here to address in today’s blog post.

Now, we’ll cover some basics of vaping and electronic cigarettes.
What Is Vaping?
In a general sense, vaping itself refers to the act of inhaling vapor produced by a vaporizer or an electronic cigarette. The vapor is produced from a material such as e-liquid, a concentrate, or a dry herb.
A vaporizer is an electronic device that turns the vaping material into vapor. A vaporizer usually consists of a battery, a main console or housing, cartridges, and an atomizer or a cartomizer. The battery generates the power for the heating element in the atomizer or cartomizer, which then contacts the vaping material and actually turns it into vapor that can be inhaled.
How Is ‘Vapor’ Defined?
In another general sense, vapor is roughly defined as ‘a substance diffused or suspended in the air which is originally a liquid or solid turned into a gaseous form.’ So, the vapor produced by a vaporizer or electronic cigarette is the gaseous form of any of the vaping materials that you’re consuming. Vapor usually looks quite a bit thicker than smoke, but vapor also smells much better, doesn’t stick on clothing or objects, and quickly dissipates into the air.
E-Juice / E-Liquid Basics
This is the material that you’ll be vaporizing with your electronic cigarette to produce delicious flavors and the option of getting a nicotine buzz. E-juice, commonly known as ‘juice’ or ‘e-liquid,’ largely consists of a PG (propylene glycol) and VG (vegetable glycerin) base. Flavorings are added to the PG and VG mix to create delicious and curated flavor combinations. Indeed, many innovative and surprising flavors have made their way to the vaping market in the past several years. Did you ever think that you could vape blueberry pie, pancakes with syrup, bubble gum, or even banana nut bread? Well, thanks to modern vaping technology, you can!
With vape juice, there is always a certain ratio of PG to VG. Typically, more VG in the juice mixture means that the user will get larger ‘clouds,’ or produce a greater volume of vapor when they inhale. On the other hand, more PG in the juice mixture means that the user will get more of a harsh ‘throat hit,’ something that longtime cigarette smokers tend to desire. Ultimately, the blend of PG to VG comes down to user preference, but a ratio of 70 or 80 percent VG to 30 or 20 percent PG is fairly common in many e juice brands.
Nicotine Strength
Vape juice comes in multiple nicotine concentrations that affect each user differently. The usual nicotine strengths that are offered are anywhere from 3mg, 6mg, 12mg, and 24mg, but nicotine strength could be just about any mg in that number range.
Vapers can also vape e juice with no nicotine in it at all, as many users simply enjoy the flavor of the juice and the act of vaping itself. 0mg juice is what many longtime cigarette smokers work their way down to, and eventually quit smoking and vaping altogether. While the evidence for vaping efficacy to help smokers quit is primarily anecdotal, vaping shows great promise in helping countless cigarette smokers around the world.
Quick Vaping Safety Tips
While vaping is inherently safe if you follow instructions correctly and make sure of what you’re doing, we could probably dedicate an entire blog post to vaping safety tips just to be...well, safe. We’ll keep it concise with some basic vaping safety tips:
- It is generally recommended that if you do not already smoke cigarettes or consume nicotine daily in some capacity, then you should not pick up vaping.
- Be respectful when you vape. In other words, do not vape in public businesses or other indoor places that aren’t your own house or a friend’s house. In general, please avoid vaping in places where smoking is prohibited. While the smell is generally fairly pleasant and dissipates rather quickly, it’s important to respect people around you.
- When you buy e-juice, make sure it is contained in a child-proof bottle or dropper. Keep your vape juice and other vaping supplies out of the reach of children and pets as e-liquid with nicotine can be poisonous if ingested.
- On that note, never drink vape juice, even if a little accidentally gets in your mouth or on your tongue. E-juice is exclusively meant to be vaporized.
